Child Advocates of Montgomery County is proud to nominate Judge Scharlene Valdez, Presiding Judge of Montgomery County Court at Law #6, for the 2025 ATHENA Leadership Award. The award is presented by the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce to honor exceptional women leaders.

Celebrating Leadership at the ATHENA Luncheon

Last Friday, our team attended the ATHENA Leadership Luncheon at Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe. We were thrilled to support Judge Valdez and recognize her outstanding contributions to youth justice and community advocacy.

A First-of-Its-Kind Program in Texas

Judge Valdez partnered with Child Advocates of Montgomery County to launch the Justice-Involved Youth Advocacy Program (JIY). This program is the first of its kind in Texas. It provides trained volunteer Advocates for youth involved in the juvenile justice system—ensuring they have a voice, support, and guidance during critical moments in their lives.

Inspiring Change Across the State

The JIY Program has already inspired other counties in Texas to develop similar models. Judge Valdez’s leadership is helping shape a more compassionate and effective approach to youth justice statewide.

A Vision for Better Outcomes

Judge Valdez is committed to creating better futures for children. Her work combines innovation, equity, and care—setting new standards for how communities support justice-involved youth.

We celebrate Judge Valdez for her vision, courage, and impact. Her leadership is transforming lives—one child, one case, and one community at a time.
